Dear Friends and Family,
I am so thrilled that at age 65, I will be bicycling in AIDS/LifeCycle, June 5-11, 2011, a 545-mile bicycle ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles to facilitate the end of HIV/AIDS.
I'm participating in the ALC Ride because:
Working in a medical practice in Washington DC in 1987 I saw physicians, out of fear, not taking as patients people who were known to be infected.

Then, in 1990, Richard (my close friend and co-worker) died of AIDS complications in a Washington DC hospital. It was only the day before his passing that I had come to see him in his hospital room (yes, I most often was his only visitor of the day, as people were still afraid "catching it" by just being in the room with him) only to have him tell me that the preceding night he'd fallen out of bed at about midnight, and only did a nurse find him on the cement floor, blue with cold, at seven next morning. No one to check on him at the end of that long, cold hospital hallway. Losing Richard broke my heart.
I have seen the progress made over the years, but there is still so much to be done. This is my way of helping all those, and especially the families and the children, now infected with HIV/AIDS.

Please help me support the San Francisco AIDS Foundation by giving what you can.
And, I'll keep riding until AIDS and HIV are a thing of the past!

Love and best wishes to all,
~~ Dove
