I'm Riding to End AIDS

Growing up in a small town in coastal Maine, I was never exposed to the devastating effects of HIV/AIDS.  After reading Randy Shilts' "And the Band Played On" I was shocked at the complete inaction of so many different organizations and people in response to the growing health crisis that we know today as the HIV/AIDS epidemic.  I was also struck by the passion of those who risked a great deal in order to help their friends, family, and complete strangers.  I knew I wanted to help, I just didn't know how.  Today, I'm fortunate to be a board member of Bakersfied's AIDS Project, helping to bring in the necessary funds so that we can provide our clients with all of the services that they need to continue living fulfilling lives.

I was given another opportunity to help those affected by HIV/AIDS when someone very dear to me asked me if I would like to ride with him in the 2011 AIDS/LifeCycle, and I couldn't be more excited.  I know this is going to be one of the toughest challenges that I've undertaken, but it pales in comparison to those challenges that many people face day in and day out.

From June 5-11, 2011, I'm bicycling in AIDS/LifeCycle. It's a 7-day, 545-mile bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles to make a world of difference in the lives of people living with HIV and AIDS.

Together we can help the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center continue to serve the community by providing valuable HIV/AIDS education and life-saving medical care at little to no cost for those in need. Together we can move closer in our goals to eradicate a disease that has taken millions of people from the world. Together we can make a difference!

Help me support the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center by giving what you can. We'll keep riding until AIDS and HIV are a thing of the past.
