I'm Riding to End AIDS

Friends,

June 2-8, 2013, I'm bicycling in AIDS/LifeCycle. It's a 7-day, 545-mile(yes I said 545 miles!!!) bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles to help make a world of difference in the lives of people living with HIV/AIDS.

There is many different areas fundraising will be used for but not limited to.
Here are some:

MEDICAL CARE- at low or no cost to those who suffer as well as their caretakers. About 2,100 people receive care at the clinic each year.

MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES- to help people struggling with HIV overcome substance abuse and addiction; adhere to difficult HIV drug regimens; improve self-esteem; get through the trauma of a new HIV diagnosis and manage other issues they may be facing. This program helps more then 1600 per yr.

PHARMACY- full-service pharmacy provides help for patients who struggle to afford costly medications. For patients without private insurance, medications are supported by the AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP), Medi-Cal and Medicare as well as fundraising dollars.

HIV TESTING- The Gay/Lesbian Center in West Hollywood tests 800-1,000 people for HIV each month and was one of the first in the nation to adopt rapid HIV testing.

HIV PREVENTION- The Gay/Lesbian Center works to reduce the spread of HIV through myriad education and prevention services, including: WEHO Life, a program that distributes thousands of condoms and prevention materials yearly to West Hollywood businesses; Positive Images, a live better program for HIV-positive people; and In the Moment, a web-based soap opera following the lives of young gay men making decisions about sex, relationships, drug use and other life issues.

Training ride
I rode 68 miles this week, from Corona to Huntington beach and back this week. It about kicked my ass!
I would never had thought I could do something like this, let alone a 545 mile ride in 7 days. I am sure I will be able to go a hundred miles in a day by JUne, but to get up the next day and do it again....
Remember to thank my husband for his support as well, I am taking a lot of time from home for training let alone the week of the ride!

Bike shop today..
So today I go to the bike shop to talk about a second set of wheels for my mountain bike so I can switch out between road tires and off road... So its like $350....
Im thinking the money would be better spent on a whole new road bike. Stay tuned....
