Dear Friends,

In just about three weeks, I will once again join nearly 3,000 other participants and get on a bike for a week to ride 545 miles from SF to LA.  This year I am joined by my cousin (& good friend) Keith Swan which makes the ride all the more special to me (although few who know us can probably imagine the two of us sleeping in a tent for seven nights).  And beyond the rigors of tents and absence of indoor plumbing, I have not trained enough this year but I will ride every mile because my first AIDS/LifeCycle experience confirmed that you get back more than you give and I believe that TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.  Last year 205 of you helped me to raise over $150,000.  This year we are well on our way to doing our part in making the AIDS/LifeCycle a great success.  I can't thank you enough for your generosity and kindness.  Every donation is an affirmation that raises awareness and lifts the stigma around this disease and every dollar helps people in need.  THANK YOU.

Indeed, I cannot sufficiently emphasize the unique goodwill this event creates or the importance of the funding it provides for the Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Center  and the San Francisco AIDS Foundation.  Quite simply, these organizations save & improve the lives of people living with HIV and provide all kinds of additional help to members of the LGBT community ranging from at risk youth to isolated & marginalized senior citizens

From my personal experience as a healthy man living with HIV, I know that the key for people like me to remain healthy is TREATMENT, and I know that the way we can halt the spread of new infections is TESTING plus TREATMENT and by raising awareness through education and targeted prevention efforts.  Moreover, many people living with HIV are also challenged by depression or addiction.  Without the help they need and deserve to deal with these co-occurring illnesses, people will not stay healthy and HIV will continue to spread.  This ride is all about making sure people are tested and treated until we can end AIDS.  It’s the reason I am asking for your help. TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

Thank you so much for your support and for embarking upon this journey with me again.

Gratefully, Tom
