I'm Riding to End AIDS

From May 31-June 6, 2009, I'm bicycling in AIDS/LifeCycle. It's a 7-day, 545-mile bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles to make a world of difference in the lives of people living with HIV and AIDS.

As many of you know, I did my first Aids Ride in 1999.  Here we are 10 years later and I am still riding.  I decided to ride again this year for a few different reasons.

1. To continue to support the LA Gay and Lesbian Center.   The LA Gay and Lesbian Center provides a myriad of education, prevention, and advocacy services, as well as the free primary and specialty medical care, mental health services, testing, and more than $13 million worth of HIV medications to those who can't afford treatment.

2. To promote awareness. In the 10 years since I rode my first Aids Ride I have known too many people who have become newly infected.  My personal belief is that discussions about HIV/AIDS have fallen by the wayside.  My hope is that by doing this ride, talking about it, and fundraising for it, I can help promote the continued education and awareness that is so important in our communities.

3. To provide support and love for my friends that are currently living with HIV/AIDS.

Help me support the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center by giving what you can at http://www.tofighthiv.org/goto/karina. We'll keep riding until AIDS and HIV are a thing of the past.

Much Love,
Karina ….Rider #1697
