I'm Riding to End AIDS
From June 6-12, 2010, I'm bicycling in AIDS/LifeCycle. It's a 7-day, 545-mile bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles to make a difference in the lives of people living with HIV and AIDS.
This will be my 6th AIDS/Lifecycle as a rider, crew member or volunteer. The first time I rode, it was mostly to celebrate my own recovery from cancer. The second time, my emphasis was raising awareness that AIDS is a global disease that affects us all. This will be my third ALC as a rider. This year, I am excited by the progress that has been made towards a vaccine. It will be a huge step when we are able to halt the spread of HIV/AIDS, and I believe that this research is worthy of our financial support.
But more importantly, the LAGLC and SFAF need money to help those who are living with HIV/AIDS today. Our brothers and sisters need food, medicine and support now. Now is the time to dig deep and help. We can't trust the government or large institutions to do this; we must give our time, our money and our voices to the cause.
Help me support the San Francisco AIDS Foundation by giving as much as you can. We'll keep riding until AIDS and HIV are a thing of the past.

Getting There ...
is most of the fun?? I rode 100 miles over the weekend, including 65 on Sunday with 3400 feet of climbing.

That's a short day on the ride, so I still have some work to do! I am a little tired today, but not too sore.
Last weekend, I rode with V in the official "Day on the Ride." It was a great experience, especially for her as a new rider.

Riding in January
Well, I haven't done as much riding as I would like so far this month. But i have been out there on short rides whenever the weather has been fair. Here is one of my favorite rides: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/8490
Unfortunately, I was only able to complete the first 25 miles - I have to get out there earlier in the day!

Starting Serious Fundraising
I finally started my real fundraising effort by sending an email to everyone I know. I was thrilled to see 5 people step up almost immediately! And I know that others will donate, too. I am well on my way to raising the $3000. I am also hoping for support from Splunk - my new employer in San Francisco. Training has been more difficult since the weather has become wet, but I am still riding as much as I can. And I am starting to crosstrain indoors as well. I have a long way to go before June!

First Donation!
I started training gently this summer, increasing my riding distance and time. I am up to 30 mile rides in the Santa Cruz mountains.
I intended to start my fundraising in October, but George beat me to it. Thanks, George, for the great kickstart!
BTW, guess what I put on my Christmas wishlist... donations, of course!
