I'm Crewing to End AIDS

I am answering President Obama's call to public service by volunteering my time for the San Francisco AIDS Foundation.

Starting June 6 until June 12, I will be part of the crew for AIDS/Lifecycle, a 545-mile, seven-day bicycle ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles.  2500 cyclists and 500 crew members will hit the road to raise funds for the San Francisco AIDS Foundation.  As crew, we will work very hard each day from before dawn until after dark to take care of the riders and each other.  We will sleep in tiny two person tents, use portable showers built into the backs of semi-trailers, and eat in a giant circus tent.  We'll do all the hard work, like loading and unloading the luggage, serving food, directing traffic and the only thing that I ask in return is your support through a financial donation to this worthy cause.

HIV affects all of us, whether we realize it or not.  I started participating in this type of event back in 2001 because I wanted to use my abilities to raise awareness and funds to help both those who are already infected and to prevent others from becoming infected.  I have many friends that are HIV positive.  I can't go into the lab and do research, so this is how I help out.

My personal goal is to raise $7,500 to support programs like the California HIV/AIDS Hotline, BETA (Bulletin of Experimental Treatment for AIDS), and El Groupo, the longest running bilingual support group for Latinos living with HIV in the nation, just to name a few.  100% of the money I raise goes directly to the San Francisco AIDS Foundation.

So now I'm asking you for a donation.  All amounts are appreciated but I am hoping you will consider a minimum of $100. Your donation is tax deductible.  You may send your donation in one lump sum or break it into monthly payments.  The choice is yours.

Thank you for your support!

Sincerely,

Lee Pochapin
