I am again going to join in the Ride to End AIDS

Last year was my second year for doing the Ride. It was a difficult ride emotionally because my mother had passed away early in the week.  I thought about not doing the ride but my family and friends supported me and encouraged me to continue on.  Many people had donated to the Ride even though it was a difficult year economically and I felt a responsibility to being present and riding as much as I could.

I rode all of the hills but not every mile.  And Day 6 was the first time the ride was cancelled.  That day was an amazing day - not only because of the incredible rain - but to see how everyone had come together as a village over the week and we all just sprang into action as needed.  No one complained. Everyone helped. 2200 bikes were moved by repeated convoys of trucks; 3000 people were shuttled on buses 80 miles to Ventura.  Tents and sleeping bags were dried out.  And we had the most important candle light vigil. Amazing.

I have signed up again to do the ride, and I know that I need to be in better shape.  I expect to be in San Francisco on June 5, 2010 peddling to Los Angeles.  7-days, 545-miles,  bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles to make a world of difference in the lives of people living with HIV and AIDS.

Your support is appreciated.

Help me support the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center by giving what you can. We'll keep riding until AIDS and HIV are a thing of the past.

Where did the warm weather go?
Yesterday was so fabulous. A wonderful ride to work in shorts! I ride about 11 miles to work through Rock Creek Park. In the heart of the park it is about 10 degrees cooler - which is great in the steamy summer - but a little cold at 6:45 am. But it was delightful. And since many of the streets in downtown were blocked for the nuclear summit, I could speed on by (speed would be an exaggeration). And coming hope was great, beautiful. The Potomac river was blue, the Rock creek was flowing and clean. And then I took a little side trip to try out another bike by Seven. All in all it was about 25 or so miles of good riding and a few little hills.
My tentmate, Carol, is visiting and we were going to ride this morning but it is 50, overcast and about to rain. ugh. But a shorter ride is in my future.
Thanks to all of you for the support.

What a Winter!
Never have I seen so much snow. I know that for many of you I must sound wimpy but all of that shoveling!. But you know what? It is spring and the sun is out and I am stronger.
Well, the last couple of long rides were really really cold. 37 - 50 degrees cold. But this week was 90. My bike and I are happy about being outdoors. Ride, ride ride.
