Welcome to my AIDS LifeCycle Fundraising Page! I am so excited to be participating in my FOURTH year as a cyclist! Riding in ALC is one of the most fulfilling and exciting experiences in my life. It is more important than ever to keep the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the Los Angeles LGBT Center open to provide a safe and friendly place to those who are at risk.
Together we have raised $26,000 in the last three years.
WHY I RIDE:
On December 13, 2013 I tested positive for HIV. That time in my life, before and after my diagnosis, was very dark. I was on a path I never thought I would experience. I tried to cope with my new reality on my own and eventually it was too much for me to handle. I was overwhelmed and scared.
When I tested positive I turned to an old friend who told me about the services at the San Francisco AIDS Foundation, particularly the Positive Force program. I attended the two day Positive Living for Us (PLUS) Seminar as a result. In those two days I learned a lot about what life was going to be like living with HIV, I was able to explore the shame I felt and I heard other people's experience living with the virus. This was the beginning of my new life as an HIV positive man. I began to build a community around me, I found an amazing therapist at Queer Life Space (which I learned about during PLUS) and a little more than a year later I decided to get sober.
Positive Force really shaped my outlook on my future as an HIV positive man. They provided me with community, guidance, support and, most importantly, hope. I no longer feel shame about my diagnosis or the circumstances I created that led to it.
Today it is important for me to be open and honest about my experiences around HIV. I ride because I want to pay forward all the love and care I was given from the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and to be an example that you can be happy and healthy and thrive as a sober HIV+ person. It really means so much to me to be an example for others.
I am choosing to ride the 2019 AIDS LifeCycle so I can raise money to help ensure that everyone has access to the services I received at the SF AIDS Foundation. I want any person that learns of their positive diagnosis and feels scared and alone to be able to benefit from the same services, love and support I experienced that ultimately led me to the happy and healthy life I live today.
So please help me fight HIV/AIDS and the stigma around it by donating to my ride. All donations, big and small, goes a long way and will help so many people in the future. In a large part due to the San Francisco AIDS Foundation, I made it through one of the toughest experiences of my life and with your help we can make sure others do the same.
June 4th - June 10th, 2017, over 3,000 Cyclists, Roadies and Virtual Cyclists will be participating in AIDS/LifeCycle, a 545-mile bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles to raise funds for the life-saving services offered by San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the Los Angeles LGBT Center. This year, I'll be one of them!
The services provided as a result of this event mean the world to those who receive them, and your support means the world to me.
We're working together to make HIV/AIDS a thing of the past. Will you support me by making a donation today?
