To all my future donors: Just because I passed this fundraising milestone, doesn't mean your dollars aren't needed. They are just as impactful to the work of SFAF and LA LGBT Center. I'm raising my goal to $15,000 and I hope you'll help me get there.
I'm Riding to End AIDS
Friends and family,
Since 2008, I've biked over 5,450 AIDS/LifeCycle miles (not including training) and raised over $89,156! On June 2nd through June 8th, I will be participating in my eleventh AIDS/LifeCycle ride - that's another 545 miles from San Francisco to Los Angeles. I've also set a fundraising goal which will allow me to surpass an incredible personal fundraising milestone - $100,000! (Since 2008). And that's where I could really use your help - at whatever level you can.
Why do I keep riding? Many of you have heard me say this or perhaps remember reading this last year, but for me, the reasons remain the same. In the United States today, HIV and AIDS afflicts over one million people and simultaneously affects several millions more - friends, family members, co-workers, and loved ones. A new infection occurs every 9 minutes - 34% of them among people between 13 and 29 years old. The AIDS/LifeCycle ride, now in its 17th year, has raised over $100 million for HIV/AIDS services. The event this year takes on added importance given the significant budget cuts impacting prevention, care, and education.
What does your donation support? I ride for the San Francisco AIDS Foundation. The foundation develops innovative solutions, combining scientific evidence with community experience to fight HIV/AIDS and promote health. They provide direct services to thousands of people living with or at risk for HIV/AIDS and supply thousands more with prevention and treatment info. They serve as advocates for sound HIV/AIDS policies at all levels of government.
What do you get in return? Well, besides that warm fuzzy feeling . . .
1. You will be saving lives. How? Your donation supports the education, prevention, and care services that the San Francisco AIDS Foundation offers. In my ten years raising money for the Foundation, I have had the honor of meeting some of them. Real people's lives YOU have saved.
2. You will be raising awareness and reducing stigma. The LifeCycle raises tremendous awareness and knowledge about HIV/AIDS not only among participants, donors and our networks, but also the general public in the 58 towns and 8 counties we ride through. The Ride simultaneously combats the stigma of what it means to be "HIV positive" through positive public example.
3. You will receive not only my gratitude, but also regular updates from training and the actual event (photos included!)
4. . . . and last but certainly not least, your donation is 100% tax deductible.
I undertake this journey - committing to the $10,844 goal and to another 545 miles (plus training!). However, this is not a journey I can complete on my own. Help me support AIDS/LifeCycle by giving what you can.
