MY BIRTHDAY WAS NOVEMBER 4TH!
As I celebrate my 39th birthday again, I have a request. You know that I never ask for gifts or a big to-do. This year is different. I ask you to celebrate my day of birth by donating to AIDS LifeCycle under my name. The link is below.
I have made some heartfelt decisions in the past few months about my life and the direction that I want it to go. I am winding down some of my week long events and focusing on closer in proximity community events and causes.
2017 will be my final year as a Participant in AIDS LifeCycle aka ALC (formerly known as in the beginning as The California AIDS Ride Or “CAR”). My first nine years I was a cyclist, the last 10 I have been a roadie.
For next year, my 20th consecutive year, I have registered as Virtual Cyclist. This means that as each year before I have a fundraising goal. The difference this time around is that I will be missing the joyous week on the Ride in June.
The fundraising and the media attention have always been and continue to be in my opinion the top two critical components of ALC (what we call “The Ride”). The funds needed for wide and diverse initiatives are numbers too big for us not to continue the fight.
Some of you may recall that I also founded and ran my own nonprofit for 15 years where I garnered new clothing as well as used items for brand-new AIDS LifeCycle participants having helped hundreds of cyclists. The organization known as FirstCAREE is one of my greatest accomplishments in my life and many of you helped with it.
I find myself prouder than ever remembering all you who have supported me in so many ways for twenty years! I am grateful to have met so many big hearted and persevering people (many in Spandex!) and I will never forget all of my Divas crowned on my Bus Divalicious!
Please understand that my dedication to my volunteer work is not waning. It is quite the contrary as I move into different areas of philanthropy.
Your donation under my name for AIDS Lifecycle will help so many people. Can you imagine if each of my 700+ friends on FB donate just $20? I suspect though, the donations will be more. Let's make this my biggest fundraising year ever!
The B&W photo is my first year as a cyclist when we were welcomed with open arms by the children of Guadalupe handing us handmade paper flowers (I still have mine). We, in turn, gave them gifts. That moment forever changed a big part of my life.
THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!!
PS you may want to consider those year-end tax donations.
