Over 25 Years ago, my two dear friends and mentors, Michael Olsen and Kenneth Mondragon both died of AIDS.
In 1994, I volunteered at the very first AIDS Ride California send off ceremony, and made a promise to myself that someday I would do the actual ride to honor Michael and Kenneth, who supported me and helped me become the proud gay man I am today.
On June 2nd - June 8th 2019, I am fulfilling that promise.
I will be participating in the 2019 AIDS/LifeCycle, a 545-mile bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles to raise funds for the life-saving services offered by San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the Los Angeles LGBT Center.
Your support means the world to me.
All of us are working together. Please support me today in honoring Michael and Kenneth and supporting people living with HIV/AIDS by making a donation today.
Thank you for joining us in this cause!

ALC2019 RECAP 6-10-19
Well we did it! This past week riding from San Francisco to Los Angeles was a life changing experience. I pushed myself and completed the journey and I feel so proud and accomplished. I realized that you only have a short time here on this planet, and you must live life to the fullest. So, going forward this is what I plan to do!
On the ride, I reconnected with longtime friends Donna and Sasha, my High School Student Body President Rick, Dean a co-worker from Wells Fargo, and my cousin Barbara, who I had not seen in 30 years. I met so many loving and supporting people on this journey and enjoyed connecting with them and learning about why they do the AIDS/Lifecycle.
I want to thank my dear friends David Woodward and Daryl Dean, the Chain Gang and team Shifting Gears for getting me ready. They were with me for every mile on this wonderful journey.
Here are some highlights of my journey.
Day One was magical, the opening ceremonies were so emotional I could not stop crying. We left the Cow Palace with tons of people cheering us on. I road on Skyline Blvd passing the exits to my childhood home in Pacifica and Daly City. We ended up in Santa Cruz 82 miles away, and I experienced my first night ever camping in a tent.
Day Two, I completed the 109 miles with flying colors. I consumed the best grilled artichokes and artichoke cupcakes at Pezzini Farms. I made it to the "Otter Pop" rest stop we enjoyed Ice Cold Otter pops and perfected my camping routine, Get Bag, Set up Tent, Charge Phone, Take Shower, Return to Tent and prep for Next Day, Eat Dinner, Hang out and Go to Sleep!
Day Three, was hot as hell at 105 degrees, I made it up ? of the infamous Quad buster hill and walked the remaining ? of the way. This was the only time, I had to walk my bike during the ride. We had $100 Burgers for lunch at the Bradley School, and that day the school raised over 70k from the ALC riders.
After lunch I experienced my emotional breakdown. At a previous rest stop I met the parents of a rider named Brian. They came from Minnesota, to cheer him along at every rest stop. Since it was so hot, Daryl, David and I called for a sweep to the final rest stop. The sweep team was a mother and son. Experiencing these loving families made me think of my parents and how much I love them and that if they were a little younger, they would have been traveling along and cheering me on at every rest stop like Brian's parents. By the time we arrived at the final rest stop a was so emotional, I had to take the sag bus the final 11 Miles to camp so all in all, I road 54.8 miles on day three!
Day Four, we conquered the Evil Twins with flying colors. I found my pace at 4.6 mph and that got me up and over these two tough hills. Just after the Evil Twins we made it to the Halfway To LA Point, which was fantastic, after that it was an accelerating downhill ride! We made it to Rest Stop four for a total of 82.5 miles, it was getting late, so we took the sag bus for the remaining 3 miles to camp!
Day Five, we road 41.3 miles and it was our shortest day. We made it into camp around 3:00 PM. It was so nice to have a little time for a wonderful CBD oil massage. I slept like a baby. I also made the best decision to get a hotel for Day 6.
Day Six, we road 88.7 miles, though rolling hills, the highlights of this day was the Paradise Pit stop where the Santa Barbara community served us ice cream and the Rest Stop 4 where there was a dance party on the beach! I stayed at the Downtown Ventura Motel Six, where I had a nice bed, and shower waiting for me. It was so worth it; I was refreshed for the DAY Seven.
Day Seven, the final day, I think this was the toughest day of the ride. We rode a total of 88.7 miles there were more miles between rest stops, our first rest stop was at Mile 21, we skipped the second stop at mile 29.7 and then stopped for lunch at mile 54.1, and the traffic in Malibu was scary to navigate. When we rolled into Fairfax High 14.5 miles later it was so emotional, Gordon, Nick, Mason and Bailey greeted me with signs and cheered me on as I crossed the finish line.
Thank you for supporting me on this journey together we raise over $ 7,500.00 for this great cause. I am planning to sign up for next year's ride and I hope you will support me in that journey.
