I need your support. Please take a moment and make a pledge. Any amount would be much appreciated.
June 4th through June 10th, I will be riding my bike in the AIDS/LifeCycle to raise awareness for people living with HIV. It's a 7-day, 545-mile bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles.
Below is a brief synopsis of where we are in the current fight against HIV/Aids.
In the summer of 2011 Study HPTN 052, funded by National Institute of Health, concluded that successful treatment of HIV to undetectable levels in the body resulted in a 97% decrease in the risk of transmission. This has become known as Treatment as Prevention (TasP).
In addition, Tuvada was approved for Pre-exposure Prophylaxis (PReP) in 2012. People who feel like they are at higher risk for HIV can now take a medication that can prevent them from becoming infected.
Together the strategies of TasP and PreP can have a dramatic effect of lowering the number of new HIV infections annually.
My goal is to get as many people as possible to donate --no matter how little-- in hopes of spreading the information above and raising awareness. Please feel free to pass this request along to others who may be interested.
Help me support AIDS/LifeCycle by giving what you can. We'll keep riding until AIDS and HIV are a thing of the past.
