Why I'm going to ride 545 miles (877KM) from SF to L.A:
One of the best moments of the ride for me happened when we were already in Santa Monica, On our last 20 miles before coming back home. When we stopped on the red light, cars started rolling down their windows and asking: "hey, what's is this? Are you guys in some kind of a race?" “We just rode from SF to LA on our bicycle, to end AIDS, and bring visibility to our LGBTQ brothers and sisters.” We answered.
All of a sudden all the cars around us, and pedestrians started honking and applauding us! We were engulfed with love.
I was in tear, and so are all the riders who witnessed it.
That's why I'm riding. That's why it's important.
As our brothers and sisters of color, the Jewish and Muslim faith, and our own LGBTQ community are being attacked by White Supremacist (and lets face it, the Republican party). The best way to combat that is by riding our bicycle while being out and proud, and show that we are vital members of society.
It breaks my heart that I will not be able to ride the full ride this year, but I still believe in the cause (heloing LGBTQ youth as one of many amazing progreams the Center is focus on), and why my fellow riders are riding, and I would love it if you will support me this year, as I only take on 3 or 4 of the 7 day ride (have cheduel conflict).
With you, and thank you,
