June 4th - June 10th in 2017, I’ll be participating in AIDS/LifeCycle, a 545-mile bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles to support the life-saving services offered by San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the Los Angeles LGBT Center. This bike ride means the world to those who receive treatment as a result of this event, and your support means the world to me.
I Roadie to End HIV/AIDS. What does this mean?
For very selfish reasons, I've made the AIDS/LifeCycle a mandatory event in my life. I love giving back to a community that gives back to me.
My times as a Roadie during the last three years have been remarkable. The friends that I made, teammates, cyclists, roadies, and donors, who share the same vision, to end HIV/AIDS for good. I've hugged people that I've never met before, I've laughed and I've cried. I've shared meals with people, and started up conversations out of the blue.
I’ve spent time working with the Bike Parking team, but last year started with the Rest Stop One team. I love greeting cyclists who are sometimes invigorated, but often times anxious about their journey. Being a Roadie has been hard work, but so very rewarding. Sometimes I've felt like one of Snow White's dwarves, 'Hi Ho Hi Ho', because it's truly about Teamwork. We find ourselves getting into a Rhythm. We have a feeling of accomplishment at the end of the day, and we are ready for the next morning. We are rewarded with gratitude from cyclists and other Roadies, which for me is one of the greatest gifts.
I love being part of a great team of individuals, Team Goodisness, from all around the Nation, and the World, who come together, at least once during the year, to support each other. Having physically and mentally prepared for the Ride, as well as, committed to fund-raising all year to make the Ride, we meet and greet each other in person, sometimes for the first time. I love that my teammates support me during the Ride; last year they collected my bag from the gear truck and pitched my tent, while I was busy with Roadie work. Who does that? Team Goodisness does that.
All of this Roadie's work, this Cyclist's ride, this Team's collaboration, this Donor's gift is for one Cause ~~ To Fight and End HIV/AIDS, and it is worth every Effort that each one of Us puts forth.
All this Effort goes to helping those with HIV/AIDS stand with Dignity in knowing that they are Not alone, Strength to keep up the good fight in managing their Every Day Living, and the Knowledge that the research to Battle a Cure is being funded.
And for very Selfish reasons, it's worth it for Me.
Love, Understanding, & Support ~ is the Cure toward Fighting HIV/AIDS.
