The Ride last year was so special to me, and I often think about the experience. This year I am joining the cause as a Virtual Cyclist. This means that I am on a quest to raise vital funds for the Los Angeles LGBT Center (my employer) and the San Francisco AIDS Foundation.
After experiencing the election, I realized that many of the funding streams that the Center has from the Federal Government may be in jeopardy. We have many grants which help us to ensure HIV testing, prevention and counseling. Though the rates for new infections are lower than in many years, there are still new infections happening.
I am also incredibly concerned with the plight of young immigrants, some call themselves Dreamers. The Center has amazing youth prgramming which provides food and shelter for so many young people who have been cast out of their homes simply for revealing who they are. Imagine having this happen, and not having documentation.
Please help me raise this vital funding. If you donate $75 or more, I will send you a "545" sticker for your car (or wherever you would like to put it). This sticker is more than a thank you, it is a display of your support for the 545 mile Ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles and the amazing people to complete this journey on a bicycle! This year I will also be staffing the Ride supporting the riders as they make their way to Los Angeles. I see this as another way to contribute support and I hope to help many people along the way. Thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope I can count on you to help me reach my goal!
