Thank you for joining me in this cause!
From June 2nd - June 8th, I will be riding 545-miles from San Francisco to Los Angeles with over 3,000 Cyclists, Roadies and Virtual Cyclists in AIDS/LifeCycle. I am raising funds for the life-saving services offered by San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the Los Angeles LGBT Center. My goal is to raise $3000.
Why do I ride? I ride because HIV and AIDS is not a thing of the past. I ride because my partner, the man I love wholeheartedly, is living with HIV. I ride because not everyone has access to the life saving drugs he takes each day. I ride because Truvada (PrEP), the medication I take each day to ensure I don’t contract HIV from my partner, costs me $1200 a month until I hit my high insurance deductible. I ride because I am privileged and can (barely) afford PrEP, but not everyone can. I ride because HIV and AIDS disproportionately impacts communities of color. I ride because people struggling with drug and alcohol addiction are diagnosed at much higher rates and often don’t have the resources to battle addiction, let alone access life saving HIV treatment. I ride because I read headlines like “Trump drains HIV/AIDS funding to pay for child migrant detention” and I fear not only for the children and the immigration crisis we are in, but also for the organizations like San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the Los Angeles LGBT Center who rely heavily on funding to provide care to an underserved population. I ride because I am a transgender man and trans people are typically ignored from research studies even though we are also disproportionately impacted by HIV and AIDS. I ride because of the individuals who came before who fought and still lost their battle to AIDS. I ride for the friends and friends of friends who I have known who are no longer living. I ride for myself, in gratitude that my body will still allow me to get on a bike despite over 6 surgeries to my hips and spine. I ride because we DO NOT have to keep losing people to this virus and yet we still do. Mostly, I ride because I can...Because I am compelled to DO something, especially in a political climate when we all MUST act. I ride in honor of (and with) Jason, my heart...
Will you please help by donating to my fundraising campaign? I am already out training and I am committed to doing my part. Please help me in supporting AIDS/LifeCycle.
