Thank you for joining me in this cause for the second year! I initially signed up last year to challenge myself. A 545 mile bike ride is no small feat, and I’m proud that I rode every damn mile. AIDS/LifeCycle challenged me more than just physically, and I’m proud to tackle round two riding from San Francisco to Los Angeles with over 3,000 Cyclists, Roadies and Virtual Cyclists.
This year’s AIDS/LifeCycle is from June 2- 8, and once again is a 545-mile bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles to raise funds for the life-saving services offered by San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the Los Angeles LGBT Center. Last year's ride was a challenge, both mentally and physically, but it was an experience that had a profound impact on my life. I learned a lot during the ride. I learned how far we've come to finding a cure. I learned how much work there still is to do. I learned that the stigma surrounding the disease still exists, and that I had some work to do to get over it myself. I also gained a new sense of and appreciation for community. I thought my worldview was already pretty wide, but this ride showed me that there is always so much to learn as long as you're open. After seeing first hand how incredibly special this ride is, and how valuable and life changing the services these organizations provide are, there was no way I could not do this again.
Last year, we made A HUGE IMPACT and I can't wait to see how many more lives we can change together. Thanks to my incredible family, friends, and coworkers, I raised a total of $11,553 last year. I have a lot of exciting things planned in the Denver area, so this year I am setting my goal $1,000 higher at $12,500. The costs to support a rider are around $1,000, so to demonstrate my belief in and committment to this cause, I am donating the first $1,000. Every penny that you donate goes directly to work providing care, support, love, and hope to the people that need it. I can't wait to pedal my way through California again, but I can't do any of this without your support.
Interested in how your contributions help? Here are a few examples:
- $50 will purchase and distribute 550 condoms
- $100 will provide prevention counseling for 12 clients
- $250 covers the cost of 20 rapid HIV tests
- $500 will purchase a full year's worth of medical supplies for 20 patients
- $1,000 provides substance abuse counseling for 25 clients
The services provided as a result of this event change the lives of those who receive them, and your support means the world to me. I'm beyond grateful for your help in this endeavor- even a $5 donation gets me closer to my lofty goal and closer to finding a cure.
We're working together to make HIV/AIDS a thing of the past. Will you support me by making a donation today?
