I’ve signed up again, and can't wait to ride with New Bear Republic during AIDS Lifecycle 2018!
Participating in ALC last year was one of the the toughest physical and mental challenges that I have so far edured. I went from being dead tired from a 20 mile bike ride, to riding back to back 80 mile or more rides in preparation for the real thing. I went from being unsure if I could ever even get to the minimum $3,000 in fundraising to participate in the ride, to hitting over $5,000 with the help of all my family and friends. I have such a great group of people in my life that I was even able to get donations from people that I have never met. I learned that when you care for a cause people will support you. With that I humbly ask that you help me in this great endeavour that I have for a second year undertaken. I’ll put in the miles, climb the hills, fix the flat tires, and clean up the cuts and bruises, but I need your support with donations. If you can’t support my cause financially, I appreciate all the words of encouragement too; they really help me ride those 545 miles from San Francisco to Los Angeles.
I’ll leave you with this blurb from the AIDS Lifecyle site:
AIDS is not over
In California alone there are 151,000 people living with HIV. Nationally, 70 percent of all new infections occur in communities of color and people under the age of 25 are increasingly affected.
The costs associated with medical care and treatment for a person with HIV are about $20,000 per year. Access to life-saving drugs, clinical trials and state-of-the-art treatment helps those with the disease live a longer and better quality of life. AIDS/LifeCycle will help those living with HIV/AIDS gain greater independence and get the treatment and care they need. Prevention services geared towards high-risk populations will ensure that future generations will not experience the same level of loss that we have faced in the last two decades.
As the number of people living with HIV increases, so does the need for the services provided by the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the Los Angeles LGBT Center, the two agencies producing this event.
AIDS/LifeCycle is the only AIDS fundraising bicycle event in California organized by the non-profit agencies that will benefit from the money raised by its participants. Our sole concern is providing critical services to people living with HIV and AIDS. Your support and commitment to this event is pivotal to our success. Your participation and the monies you raise will allow us to provide these critical services.
We’re working together to make HIV/AIDS a thing of the past. Will you support me by making a donation today?
