For those who are unfamiliar with the AIDS/LifeCycle, it is a 545-mile bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles to raise funds for the life-saving services offered by San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the Los Angeles LGBT Center. The ride takes place the first week of June where over 3,000 Cyclists, Roadies and Virtual Cyclists participate, and this will be my second year riding.
Last year the 545-mile ride was one of the most grueling and rewarding experiences of my entire life. It was a trying experience both physically and emotionally enhanced by the amazing love and support from the community of participants. It was such an amazing experience I signed up for this year right at the finish line.
Now you must be thinking a 545-mile bike ride?? Dwyer, you're nuts. You can't do that. And the truth is I can't do it. Not without your help. I've vowed to raise $6,000, double the fundraising minium. To put this into perspective this is the equivalent of providing rapid HIV testing for 480 people. I need your help in raising this money, not only because it provides what could be live saving public health services, but for the support I will need to remember as I get my ass kicked on every hill. Your contribution will help keep me going, pedaling every. last. mile. on the week long journey. Your contribution will help educate about, test for, as well as prevent and treat HIV/AIDS in San Francisco and Los Angeles, two communies I've been fortunate enough to call home.
Last year was a record breaking year for AIDS/LifeCycle in terms of fundraising and I'm hoping to help break more records this year. Jill and I were able to raise an incredible $10,000 together with your help and this year I'm upping the anty to help make San Francisco the first city in the world with ZERO new HIV/AIDS transmissions. With the continued support of donors like yourslef we are already well on the way to that goal, but there is still work to be done in our City and beyond. Together let's help make HIV/AIDS a thing of the past.
