Yes, I survived ALC 2018, thanks to my wonderful teammates on the South Bay Blaze and Awesome Ahead training teams, and to all of YOU who donated and cheered me on!
So I’m back… because I can, because others can’t, and because we’re still fighting to End AIDS.
You might think this effort – mine and that of the whole ALC community – is amazing. But you are doing amazing things with your donation! Providing needed services to someone you don’t even know and will never meet is pretty amazing. Thanks to you, someone will receive testing, support, access to treatment and resources, wellness planning for living with HIV/AIDS, and hope for a cure. Check out the incredible San Francisco AIDS Foundation and LA Gay and Lesbian Center to see what your donation will do.
Once again, please let me know whose name I can carry with me from SF to LA in memory of someone you’ve lost to AIDS. In the tradition of the NAMES Project/AIDS Memorial Quilt, I like to find a quiet spot along the route to read the names of our loved ones. And some of the names you sent me last year helped get me up those hills and through the nasty crosswinds.
AIDS is not as terrifying as it once was. But it still takes lives when people don’t have access to treatment and services, and still takes too soon the lives of many who have been living with it for years. Let’s change that. I’m riding to change that. Are you with me?
