Everyone rides for their own reason.... be it in memory-of or the honor-of family, friends, and co-workers that you know and love; for the staff who are working on the front lines ensuring that the treatment is correct, or for the doctors who are working to find a cure. For me, this ride and fight is personal.
In the early hours of August 3rd, 2012, I woke to the phone call of a friend who had just driven a loved one to the hospital, claiming he was in severe pain and suffering from an elevated fever. It would be discovered hours later that he had an aggressive form of lymphoma – a cancer which rapidly spread through his body due to him being HIV+. I couldn't be by his bedside, nor could I be there to comfort him or calm his fears. He would later pass that day. We were born 11 days apart.
For Dawson and others are the reason why I ride. One more hug. One more kiss. One more chance to say I love you. One more opportunity to live a better life than the day before.
On May 31st,2019, I will make my annual trek out to SFO, joining 3,500 Cyclists, Staff, Volunteers and in the 26th annual AIDS/LifeCycle. Embarking on this 7-day, 545-mile ride through California, I ride in support of the life-saving services ensuring that we are working towards a world of zero new infections. I ride and raise funds because I am not a scientist, or a doctor. I ride because, well, I am tired of seeing friends suffer.
So what am I doing to get there? With the generosity of friends, family, coworkers, and perfectly beautiful strangers, I am working to raise both fun and funds in support of this ride. I am grateful for my friends at CycleBar, The Lyric Tower, Jardin @ Robinia Courtyard, the Mediterranean Hookah Lounge and Bar, Madison Woof's, Plan B, and The Shamrock for opening their doors and allowing me to host events and fundraisers at their locations. Without their assistance, this goal wouldn't be met.
I can't do this alone and need all the assistance I can get. If you are not in a position to make a donation, please consider sharing my page with your network and adding in a personal testimony of how you know me.
The road ahead is long, but with your help, we can make this disease a thing of the past.
