Thank you for joining me in this cause!
June 3rd - June 9th, over 3,000 Cyclists, Roadies and Virtual Cyclists will be participating in AIDS/LifeCycle, a 545-mile bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles to raise funds for the life-saving services offered by San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the Los Angeles LGBT Center. This year, I’ll be one of them!
The services provided as a result of this event mean the world to those who receive them, and your support means the world to me. This past year has been difficult for so many people, myself included. There has been a lot of talk about feeling hopeless and helpless as decisions are being made that are not in the best interest of ourselves, our loved ones, our communities. Sensitive bird that I am, it has taken me a full year to recover from the heartbreak of the election and find a way to utilize my skills and passions in a way that will support people who need it while also sustaining me as a person.
Cycling has always been a strong feature in my life—a way to combat stress, anxiety, and sorrow. I often hit the road or trail alone, or with just a friend or two, for the selfish goal of breathing fresh air and leaving life behind for a moment. This time, I'm putting my passion to better use and raising money to help combat HIV/AIDS and offer support to the LGBTQ community most affected by this secret epidemic.
DID YOU KNOW? Among our population of gay and bisexual American men, HIV and AIDS devastate the community at a higher percentage than the most devastated African nations. At the current rate, Black men who are gay or bisexual have a one in two chance of becoming infected with the virus. These heartbreaking statistics have to do with stigma, education, access to medical testing and support, and access to a mental health network. This ride raises funds to support organizations who provide those lifesaving tools to those affected or at risk or being affected by HIV/AIDS.
We’re working together to make HIV/AIDS a thing of the past. Will you support me by making a donation today? Any amount is greatly appreciated, and a donation of $54.50 adds up to just 10 cents per mile. If that sounds out of reach but you still want to help, AIDS/LifeCycle can help set up a doable payment plan.
