Here is a little backgroung about me and why I am doing this. For the past 10+ years I have worked in the hospital setting and loving it. I worked at the Cancer Center pharmacy at Eisenhower for 9 years. When i had the opportunity to work in the Cancer Center, i was determined to help each and every patient that walked in that door. Every time I stepped foot in that hospital my only job personally was to at least get a smile out of one patient or family member and that they know I am there to help them thru this and find a cure for cancer. Now, I was giving a great opportunity to start and help build from the ground up a Rehab Hospital. It was a challenge but we got everything in place and we are up and running. The rehab hospital is a different type of environment from cancer center but same job and that is helping patients get better.
People ask me why am i riding? I am riding becuase helping others and the community is in my blood. Working in the 2 hospitals and trying to make a difference as much as possible is no different than helping this cause to end AIDS. I challenge myself to do something new, I asked myself what else can I do to help and show my family and friends that I am that type of person commited to do what ever it takes to help end AIDS. This ride is a little crazy but if its for the people of our community, so every single training ride and spin class each week until June, I know I am doing tis for them and I WILL FINISH THIS RIDE.
When I first signed up for the AIDS LifeCycle I set my goal to raise at least $5000. I was thinking to myself, there is no way I can do this by the end of May. 2 1/2 months went by and i hit that goal. Thank you to all that has donated and helped me reach this, and now i raised my goal to an unthinkable number of $15,000 but im sure i will get close to this goal and for me as a first time rider it will show how determined I am on doing so... With that being said,
Did you know:
$100 affords a Treatment Advocacy Coordinator the ability to attend medical appointments for up to 25 clients, providing moral support and helping clients advocate for themselves and buys more than 1,100 condoms for distribution throughout the Center's Community Health programs and activities.
$250 could provide necessary funding for our weekly Translife Support Group to discuss health and wellness issues and build community to give people the support they need and the family they long for, also provides rapid HIV tests, with results in less than a minute, for 20 clients.
$500 it could provide funding for up to 50 members of the Elizabeth Taylor 50-Plus Network to come together twice a month in order to offer support for individuals working though anxiety, depression and isolation. Also covers a full year of medical supply cost for 20 clients.
$1,000 could provide rapid HIV antibody test kits for 40 individuals at any one of our multiple testing sites. And funds one client receiving Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) to prevent HIV insfection after potential exposure.
So this is why I am riding to help with all these listed above and I cannot do this alone. I would need your help bring real HIV awareness and eliminating Stigma.
Thank you, and love you always. So please every dollar helps, lets END AIDS.
