Thank you for joining me in this cause!
I’ll just put it out here - the rumors are true. I've been training for a couple months now to ride a bike 545 miles, from San Francisco to Los Angeles, in 7 days, for a fundraiser called the AIDS Lifecycle.
I recall riding as much as 35 miles once, and that included a stop for Bloody Marys and lunch.
I’ve covered the AIDs Lifecycle in Goweho.com, given money to support the cause, but I was pretty sure I would never be able—or want—to do it myself. Six nights sleeping in a tent, after cycling an average of 78 miles per day, are they kidding?
But I’m stepping up and committing to ride, because I fear there’s a complacency settling in about this horrific disease, and federal cutbacks are having a serious effect on lifesaving programs that offer support for those impacted.
If my participation can bring awareness to people who may not have thought much about it—or thought they didn’t know anyone affected by the disease—I must put on the dorky helmet and the gawd-awful shorts and do my part.
If you support the cause, I would be honored if you would join my team, and put your donation under my rider number. I will also be grateful, as each rider must raise a minimum of $3,000. I’ve been blessed to have many generous, compassionate people in my life, many of whom know too well the devastating effects of this disease. I thank you for any contribution you can make, and for joining the team … I will do my best to make you proud!
