I'm Riding to End AIDS

From June 2-8, 2013, I'm bicycling in AIDS/LifeCycle. It's a 7-day, 545-mile bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles to make a world of difference in the lives of people living with HIV and AIDS.

There are so many reasons why I am doing this and having been wanting to this for over as long as I have lived in San Francisco. Let's start out with the most important reason - to help raise funds to help in the fight against HIV/AIDS that taken so many beautiful souls over the course of the last 30 plus years. People I knew, people I worked with, people I called friends, I miss them terribly. Then there are my close friends living with HIV, those who were spared and still live daily with HIV. I am also riding for my friend Kevin?s brother, Dennis Sullivan. Kevin offered me a challenge I could not refuse, ride with a picture of Dennis?s Aids quilt panel and he would be my biggest donor. I never met a challenge I did not take.

Now on to the fun reasons...

As I mentioned I have wanted to do this for close to 13 years as a personal challenge.  For those of you who know me well, this is a HUGE commitment since I mostly just dance at good shows for exercise, and spend my life dreaming about food and my next meal.

On one of those particular evenings when I invited my friend,  Ann Kveglis,  over so we could make homemade mozzarella for an oh so very seasonal tomato mozz salad for a 4th of July party we were attending the next day.  Of course as you can all imagine we started drinking martini's, shocking I know....we started talking about the ride and Ann and I decided right then and there it was on!! Of course saying you are going to do something when you have had some delicious homemade watermelon martinis (did I mention no cheese was made..LOL) and actually doing it is another story. When I ran into Ann at the BBQ the next day she asked me if we were doing the ride because she was telling everyone we were...I replied I had been telling everyone too!!...Now it was definitely ON because when it is said out loud, it becomes my word and gospel.

So from that of so drunken night comes "Team Shaken Not Stirred" and years of wanting turned into doing. I have set a lofty goal for myself, $10000 (I need to raise at least $3000 to participate). Won't you all help me make my goal? No amount is too little and it is TAX DEDUCTIBLE PEOPLE!!!!

Help me support AIDS/LifeCycle by giving what you can. We'll keep riding until AIDS and HIV are a thing of the past.

Thank you,

Kimmy
